A flat printed keychain is a 2D piece — flat on a keyring. A domed keychain carries a 2-3 mm clear polyurethane resin layer that lifts the artwork into a 3D, tactile, scratch-resistant piece. The keychain looks the same as a flat print until you touch it or run a finger over the surface — the dome is what holds the answer. Backing stocks and shapes
Standard backing is 0.5 mm white PVC in any die-cut design (€85 die cut design cost). Premium backing: 1.0 mm aluminium coating (sub-surface or coated). Backings can be cut as 30×30 mm round, square, rectangle, or any custom die-cut. Hardware options include 25 mm split-ring (€0.10 per keychain uplift), 38 mm carabiner (€0.80 per keychain uplift), 25 mm lobster-claw (€0.45 per keychain uplift), and 38 mm heavy-duty carabiner (€1.20 per keychain uplift). All hardware is nickel-plated steel or brass, sourced through a Nicosia metalwork supplier.
Production specifics
Doming is a 2-step operation. Step 1: print the artwork in CMYK plus white on a UV flatbed (Durst Tau 330) at 1,440 dpi on the PVC backing. Step 2: pour a 2-3 mm polyurethane resin layer over the printed face and cure at room temperature for 24 hours. Setup is €85 per design — covers screen prep, doming template production and dome-pour setup. Standard production is a single keychain front (single-side); a back-side print is +€0.45 per keychain.

Keychains ship in individual 80×120 mm poly sleeves (€0.10 per sleeve uplift). Welcome-kit and corporate-gift deliveries are wrapped in black velvet presentation pouches at €1.20 per unit. Bulk orders of 100+ keychains are packed 100 per master carton. A Nicosia bank required 600 keychains individually wrapped and labelled by branch code — €0.18 per piece for the variable label was the uplift.

What is the largest keychain size you can produce?
The standard maximum keychain size is 80×80 mm, die-cut on a flatbed press. Larger custom keychains up to 100×150 mm are possible on a UV flatbed at +€0.40 per piece. Minimum keychain size is 20×20 mm on a roll-fed press.
Can doming hold photographic detail and gradients?
Yes — UV flatbed print on PVC backing carries photographic detail and gradient at 1,440 dpi. Photographic covers, gradient backgrounds and brand-image artwork are all within the standard capability of a UV flatbed press. The clear 2-3 mm polyurethane dome does not distort the print underneath.
Can doming include metallic or fluorescent colours?
Limited — standard UV flatbed is CMYK plus white. Metallic gold and silver are available as a fifth spot colour at +€0.40 per keychain, but the result is a printed metallic effect, not a foil-shine. For a true metallic shine, foil blocking is the right method.
How durable is a domed keychain in daily use?
PVC backing with UV-stable ink and polyurethane doming survives 5+ years of daily carry. The polyurethane dome is UV-stable, scratch-resistant and dishwasher-safe. Aluminium backing survives 10+ years of daily carry; the polyurethane dome is UV-stable but the aluminium is brittle at impact.
