Doming on badges in Cyprus

Polyurethane doming on badges — a clear 3D resin layer that turns a flat print into a tactile, raised badge. MOQ 30, Limassol production, 7–10 business days, EUR quotes.

Why doming on a badge in Cyprus

A flat printed badge is a 2D piece — flat on a chest of shelves. A domed badge carries a 2-3 mm clear polyurethane resin layer that lifts the artwork into a 3D, tactile, scratch-resistant piece. The badge looks the same as a flat print until you touch it or run a finger over the surface — the dome is what holds the answer. A Nicosia legal firm commissioned 200 domed badges for its annual partner-meeting lanyards, in 30×30 mm PVC with a full-colour crest and the partner's name placed into a recessed panel. Flat printing was cheaper but read as 'corporate'; doming was the answer. Cost €1.80 per badge, in 30×30 mm PVC with magnetic attachment, 7 business days.

Backing stocks and shapes

Standard backing is 0.5 mm white PVC in any die-cut design (€85 die cut design cost). Premium backing: 1.0 mm aluminium coating (sub-surface or coated). Backings can be cut as 30×30 mm round, square, rectangle, or any custom die-cut. Backing options include 25 mm magnetic backing (€0.40 per badge uplift), 38 mm pin backing (€0.18 per badge uplift), 25 mm split-ring safety-pin (€0.12 per badge uplift), 38 mm carabiner (€0.80 per badge uplift), and 25 mm crocodile clip-on-top for lanyards (€0.18 per badge uplift). All backing options are nickel-plated steel or brass, sourced through a Nicosia metalwork supplier.

Production specifics

Doming is a 2-step operation. Step 1: print the artwork in CMYK plus white on a UV flatbed (Durst Tau 330) at 1,440 dpi on the PVC backing. Step 2: pour a 2-3 mm polyurethane resin layer over the printed face and cure at room temperature for 24 hours. Setup is €85 per design — covers screen prep, doming template production and dome-pour setup. Standard production is a single badge front (single-side); a back-side print is +€0.45 per badge.

Bundling and packaging

Badges ship in individual 200 µm poly sleeves with a corrugated divider (€0.10 per sleeve uplift). Event-delivery badges are packed 50 badges per master carton with foam dividers. A Limassol conference required 600 commissions individually wrapped and labelled by attendee — €0.18 per piece for the variable label was the uplift.

Cyprus context

Domed badges in Cyprus are most often ordered by Nicosia legal and consulting firms for partner and senior-staff lanyards (50–200 pieces per cycle), Limassol conferences and trade-shows for attendee and speaker badges (200–1,500 pieces per event), Larnaca hospitality for VIP guest lanyards (50–200 pieces per installation), and Paphos retail brands for product-tags and brand-loyalty cards (500–2,500 pieces per SKU). The peak season is April–June (event season) and September–November (conference season). Production is in Limassol; collection from our warehouse is free, courier delivery to Nicosia is next-day, Paphos and Larnaca 1–2 days.

Why doming over flat print on a corporate badge

Flat print on a PVC badge is a 2D piece — flat on a chest of shelves. Doming is a 3D tactile piece — the polyurethane resin dome lifts the artwork into a 3D, scratch-resistant surface. For a badge that carries the name, brand identity, or any tactile reference, this is the right call. The difference is felt, not printed. Flat print is achievable for a €0.85 per badge uplift; doming is the standard for a corporate effort.

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest badge size you can produce?

The standard maximum badge size is 80×80 mm, die-cut on a flatbed press. Larger custom badges up to 100×150 mm are possible on a UV flatbed at +€0.40 per piece. Minimum badge size is 20×20 mm on a roll-fed press.

Can doming hold photographic detail and gradients?

Yes — UV flatbed print on PVC backing carries photographic detail and gradient at 1,440 dpi. Photographic covers, gradient backgrounds and brand-image artwork are all within the standard capability of a UV flatbed press. The clear 2-3 mm polyurethane dome does not distort the print underneath.

Can doming include metallic or fluorescent colours?

Limited — standard UV flatbed is CMYK plus white. Metallic gold and silver are available as a fifth spot colour at +€0.40 per badge, but the result is a printed metallic effect, not a foil-shine. For a true metallic shine, foil blocking is the right method.

How durable is a domed badge in daily use?

PVC backing with UV-stable ink and polyurethane doming survives 5+ years of daily carry. The polyurethane dome is UV-stable, scratch-resistant and dishwasher-safe. Aluminium backing survives 10+ years of daily carry; the polyurethane dome is UV-stable but the aluminium is brittle at impact.

Is Corp Merch a partner or official supplier of any badge brand?

No — Corp Merch is an independent Limassol-based corporate-merch producer. We do not claim partnership, sponsorship or official affiliation with any PVC brand, resin brand or merchandising supplier. All product names and brand references on this page are used for technical compatibility only.

Can each badge carry a unique name or number?

Yes — variable-data UV flatbed printing is included at no extra cost above the 30-unit baseline. We run the variable data as a single spot in the artwork (a name, a number, a date) and serialise against your recipient list.
