Why 3D printing on a plaque in Cyprus
A traditional wooden or acrylic plaque is a flat panel with a printed or engraved mark. A 3D-printed plaque is a sculpted piece — it carries volume, depth and contour, and reads as an object rather than a label. A Limassol hotel group commissioned 12 sculpted SLA plaques for its annual staff awards, each carrying the recipient's name recessed at 1.5 mm depth below the surface, with the firm's compass-rose logo raised at 2.5 mm above the panel. Laser engraving on aluminium couldn't produce the relief; UV printing was flat. SLA was the only method that held the geometry and gave the finished piece the look of an architectural model. Cost €58 per plaque on a 200×120×8 mm SLA clear resin piece, finished and painted, 12 units, 12 business days.
Resins, filaments and panel sizes
Standard SLA is clear or white resin (Phrozen Aqua-Gray 8K, Siraya Fast Meow) at 50-micron layer height. Premium SLA tough resin (Siraya Tenacious) is +€8 per plaque; it survives a handling stress that clear resin would chip on. FDM in PETG (eSUN PETG Pro) is the workhorse for opaque-colour runs — a Larnaca shipping line ordered 30 FDM PETG plaques for its 30-year service awards, in deep navy with a chrome-finish star. Panel sizes range from a 120×80×6 mm desk plaque to a 300×200×12 mm wall plaque; larger display pieces up to 400×300×20 mm are quoted as display items rather than plaques. Hardware on wall plaques is a keyhole slot cut into the back panel at 6 mm depth.
Production specifics
SLA on a Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K at 50-micron (high-detail) or 100-micron (draft) layer height. Cycle is 6–18 hours per plaque depending on volume. FDM on a Prusa i3 MK4 in PETG at 200-micron layer height, 90–240 minutes per part. Both technologies print directly from an STL or OBJ file. Post-processing is hand work: support removal, sanding from 220 to 1000 grit for a polished clear face, primer, paint, optional metallic leaf or chrome-effect lacquer, and a back-panel keyhole slot for wall mounting. A finished SLA plaque survives 10+ years of indoor display; UV-stable topcoat adds +€4 per plaque for outdoor placement.
Bundling and packaging
Plaques ship in individual rigid corrugated boxes with closed-cell foam inserts (€2.80 per box uplift). Awards-night deliveries are wrapped in black velvet presentation sleeves at €3.40 per unit. Bulk orders of 20+ plaques are packed 6 per master carton. A Nicosia donor wall required 18 plaques each individually wrapped in acid-free tissue and crated in a single wooden shipping case for re-mounting on site — €145 one-off for the custom case.
Runs, lead times and budgets
MOQ is 5 plaques for a custom 3D shape; 1 unit is possible on a stock rectangular panel. Lead time is 12–18 business days: 2 days design prep, 3–7 days print cycles, 3–5 days post-processing and paint, 2 days QC and pack-out. EUR per unit at 12 pieces on a 200×120×8 mm SLA-printed plaque with paint and metallic leaf: €58 (SLA clear resin) to €84 (SLA tough resin). Setup fee €75 per 3D model setup; subsequent runs of the same file have no setup fee. All quotes EUR net, Cyprus VAT 19% added for taxable buyers.
Cyprus context
3D-printed plaques in Cyprus are most often ordered by Nicosia law firms and accounting practices for partner recognition (5–10 pieces per cycle), Limassol hotel groups for staff awards (10–30 pieces per annual ceremony), Larnaca shipping lines for service milestones (20–50 pieces per year), and Paphos tourism boards for donor walls (10–20 pieces per installation). The peak season is May–June (graduation and end-of-academic-year ceremonies) and November–January (corporate year-end awards). Production is in Limassol; collection from our warehouse is free, courier delivery to Nicosia is next-day, Paphos and Larnaca 1–2 days, Famagusta and the north coast on arrangement.
When a 3D-printed plaque is the wrong choice
For an outdoor installation under direct sun or sea air, an SLA resin plaque is the wrong material — the resin yellows and the metallic leaf tarnishes within 18 months even with a UV-stable topcoat. The right outdoor plaque is anodised aluminium with a sub-surface print, or cast bronze. For a high-frequency handling piece (a door-mounted award that's touched daily), an SLA tough resin plaque will outlast clear resin. We will quote the right material against your use case and never steer you to a 3D-printed plaque if an aluminium or bronze alternative will outlast it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the largest 3D-printed plaque you can produce?
The standard SLA build volume on our Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K is 218×123×250 mm. The largest plaque we ship as a single piece is 300×200×12 mm; larger display items up to 400×300×20 mm are quoted as display pieces.
Can 3D printing reproduce a crest, a logo or a sculptural relief?
Yes — 3D printing builds the shape directly from an STL or OBJ file. Heraldic crests, sculpted logos, bas-relief and full-relief are all within the standard capability of SLA at 50-micron layer height.
Can the finish include metallic colours like gold, silver or bronze?
Yes — paint and metallic leaf (gold, silver, copper, bronze) are available at +€5 per plaque. The finish is applied by hand on a primed surface and sealed with a matte or gloss topcoat.
How durable is a 3D-printed plaque indoors and outdoors?
SLA clear resin with a UV-stable topcoat survives 10+ years of indoor display. Outdoor placement under direct sun requires a UV-stable topcoat (+€4 per plaque) and the surface will still yellow after 18–24 months — for true outdoor use we recommend anodised aluminium or cast bronze instead.
Is Corp Merch a partner or official supplier of any award brand?
No — Corp Merch is an independent Limassol-based corporate-merch producer. We do not claim partnership, sponsorship or official affiliation with any hardware brand, accessory brand or merchandising supplier. All product names and brand references on this page are used for technical compatibility only.
Can each plaque carry a unique name or inscription?
Yes — variable-data 3D printing is included up to 10 unique inscriptions in a single print run. Above 10 unique inscriptions we charge €4 per inscription for the additional file-prep and printer queue time.
