Why decal on a mug in Cyprus
Pad printing and UV printing on a mug are surface applications — they sit on top of the glaze and chip or wash off within 100 dishwasher cycles. A fired ceramic decal is fused to the glaze at 800°C, becomes part of the mug, and survives 2,000+ industrial dishwasher cycles. A Nicosia private bank commissioned 600 fired-decal mugs for its premium welcome kit, in 0.3L ceramic with the bank's full-colour crest. Mug stocks and finish
Standard mug is 0.3L ceramic in white or cream, sourced through a Limassol ceramics partner. Premium mug stock: 0.25L stoneware in slate, sand or olive, sourced through a Paphos pottery. Glass mug is 0.3L clear or frosted, sourced through a Limassol glassworks — fired-decal on glass requires a glass-specific decal paper and a 620°C firing cycle. Stainless travel mug is 0.4L double-wall — fired-decal is not available on stainless; we use laser engraving on stainless. All ceramic and stoneware stock options are dishwasher-safe to EN 12875-1 and food-safe to EU Regulation 1935/2004.
Production specifics
Decal is printed in CMYK plus white on a water-slide ceramic paper, with each colour laid down as a separate screen. The decal is applied to the mug by hand under water, the mug is dried, then fired at 800°C (ceramic) or 620°C (glass) for 90 minutes. Setup is €85 per display — covers screen prep, decal paper calibration and firing curve setup. Standard production is a single 60×40 mm decal per mug; a wrap-around decal (220×40 mm) is +€0.80 per mug. Decal location is the front face (standard), or both sides for a +€1.20 per mug uplift.
Bundling and packaging
Mugs ship in individual 200 µm poly sleeves with a corrugated insert (€0.30 per sleeve uplift). Welcome-kit and corporate-gift deliveries are packed 12 mugs per master carton with foam dividers. A Larnaca gift hamper client asked for individual kraft gift boxes with a printed belly band — €1.80 per box uplift. Bulk orders of 240+ mugs are packed 24 per master carton on a EUR-pallet from the Limassol warehouse.

Setup is €85 per display; subsequent runs of the same artwork are no setup fee. All quotes EUR net, Cyprus VAT 19% added for taxable buyers.

Can decal hold fine detail like a heraldic crest or a fine logo?
Yes — fired decal holds detail down to 0.2 mm line weight at the standard firing-print resolution. Fine heraldic detail, monograms and Latin mottoes are all within the standard capability of a four-colour ceramic decal.
Can decal include gold, silver or metallic colours?
Yes — precious-metal decals (real gold, real platinum) are +€1.20 per mug and require a third firing cycle at 750°C. Imitation gold and imitation silver decals are +€0.45 per mug and fire in the same cycle as the standard CMYK decal.
